TRAIN SMART – Balance is key!

We belive in intelligent an evidence based Canine Fitness Training

Here at FlexinessXFitness® our goal is a dog’s well-being and to unlock a canine athlete’s full potential.
To get there we have to consider a few physical and mental aspects.
Most dog sports don’t only ask for strength, speed or endurance, the dog also needs
great body awareness, balance, coordination and the mental ability to focus.
All of these skills should be taken into account when creating a fitness routine.

In order to maintain a functional body with lower risk of injury 3 key factors need to be in balance:

STRENGTH

Strength training makes muscles stronger and provides them with the endurance and energy they need to move.

  • Movers (large muscles)
  • Stabilizers (small muscles)

Conditioning

Conditioning, determines how long the dog can keep moving before the body becomes exhausted.

  • High energy aerobic exercises
  • Endurance & plyometric exercises

MOBILITY & FLEXIBILITY

Keep muscles, tendons and ligaments functional. Improve joint mobility and range of motion.

Unlock your dog’s full potential, boost confidence and body awareness with our static and dynamic challenges.

to deliver a peak performance a dog needs:

COORDINATION

The ability of a body to harmoniously use different muscle groups and joints to perform precise and controlled movements is necessary in many activities or sports.

As a veterinarian and breeder/exhibitor of show dogs, I am very aware of the subtle differences that proper biomechanics can make in an animal’s performance. Flexiness has provided a wealth of resources and equipment for the development of proper fitness and musculature for show dogs, sport dogs, and companion dogs. The dog world is a bit behind the equine world in terms of sports medicine and rehab, with few resources available for veterinarians and pet owners. Katharina’s knowledge and willingness to constantly expand upon it is essential to this field. I have reached to her for help with patients on many occasions, and she has helped with a treatment plan that gets the dog back to full form. These are often complicated injuries and we are able to work together to get them feeling better! The equipment is also stable, safe, and designed with DOGS in mind, versus modified human therapy equipment or homemade contraptions. Flexiness has made an enormous difference in my breeding program, development and maintenance of show dogs, and the treatment of my veterinary patients.

I recently purchased some Flexiness training equipment and wanted to be sure I was using it correctly with my dogs. I was thrilled to learn that Katharina offers training sessions via Zoom. We arranged for a day to get together and we had a wonderful lesson. She saw the equipment I had and taught me how to make the best use of it with my dogs. I trained with 2 dogs during the session, and she was able to give me feedback about exactly what I was doing, how to do it better and why, and was able to demonstrate for me with her dogs as well. Such a valuable experience and opportunity. Katharina also emailed me a day or two later with formal instructions on the exercises we worked on, the order they should be done, the repetitions of each, and the goal of each exercise. Absolutely invaluable information for me to have as a dog handler, when working with many different dogs. I really appreciate Katharina’s thoroughness, clear explanation both during the lesson and in the personalized written instructions, patience and enthusiasm for training and conditioning our dogs!
Thank you Katharina and Flexiness!

Since my bitch was six months old, I have been going to Flexiness fitness training every week, my dog is incredibly stable and powerful in everyday life. A kind of muscular elegance, which is very nice to look at, and our bond has grown even more through this very calm and quiet work. Katharina leads each training personally. Just like a human gym, she corrects incorrect performances immediately, she responds to every type of dog breed and controls the training according to its possibilities. Katharina always manages to communicate with people of all ages in a knowledge-based manner. As a dog physiotherapist and medical masseuse EF A, I can only recommend this type of training with dogs of all ages, as I know from experience that only strong muscles protect against injuries.

The studio space is great and the group sizes very small. So every dog has enough space for his individual distance, the foot/paw floor covering is incredibly comfortable and very gentle on the joints of dog and human. I’ve been going to the training for four years now, I always say MTT (medical technical training) just like in human physiotherapy and I’m always amazed that after all this time Katharina still comes up with new ideas and suggestions for combinations of the devices and exercises. It has never been and never will be boring in fitness training at Flexiness.

Her teaching is very precise and detailed so that any person of any level can understand.
Katharina’s many details for canine fitness including dog’s movements and musculature working with them, handling skills, equipment functions and their proper uses have influenced me in a very positive way.
During the lessons, she explained how and what exercises should be applied for the uniqueness of a dog’s body.
Also, her handling skills for dogs impressed me as a trainer. I always like her harmonized movements with dogs. I feel like they are another type of martial arts but a slow and soft type.
We tried out various new exercises together using Flexiness equipment and talked about what they do to help dogs‘ better fit. It was very fruitful to hone my skills for the profession.
Not only that, I enjoyed chatting with Katharina about dog fitness.

I had a great experience working with Katharina.
Her way of teaching & making you think, realize & experiment on your own really suited me.
Our dogs have improved their bodies as well as minds. I learned so much about handling, muscle groups, what to be aware of – and nonetheless what’s great posture is. We are looking forward to continue our training sessions with Katharina.
